Tire smoking, wheel standing, gear banging, clutch popping, are only a few of the ways to describe the British Columbia Super Shifter Associations Racing Series. These are the bad boys and girls that your mother and father warned you about. Come watch the excitement and thrill of the way Drag Racing used to be. This is truly, Manual Transmission Racing at its Best!
WILL ZORIC - 2008 B.C. SUPERSHIFTERS CHAMPION!!!
PIT TALK NEWS!
June 20/21 Bremerton
If we had to have a rain day, it would have been nice to be close to home instead of in Bremerton. Though none of us can really complain considering everything that Hobo Racing went through even before they got to the track
It started with a truck-becue in the driveway at Senior Hobo's, aka Keith Winterbottom. All the neighbours attended including the local Fire Department. The ramp truck suffered severe damage and some damage was also caused to the other vehicles in the vicinity of the truck and to Keith's fingers on his shiftin hand. Anyone who knows the whereabouts of a replacement cab, please contact Keith. (Yes we also do public service announcements.) Doctor D volunteered to change the dressings on Saturday so that Keith could at least shift the Mazda.
If you think it stops there, it doesn't. The driveshaft broke on the motorhome which required the Team to return and pick up a replacement vehicle. The replacement vehicle broke the fan belt which meant that the battery had to be switched back and forth all the way down the I-5. Team Hobo rolled into Puyallup at about 4:00 a.m.
Dedication does not seem to adequately describe Hobo Racing. Most would have packed it in after the truck-becue but not Keith and Scott. They are true diehards.
There were thirteen cars for the Saturday race. A few of the regular Super Shifter racers from Bremerton were in Seattle for the Divisional race. Ryan Warter was in Seattle to qualify his stocker on Friday before attending the Saturday race in Bremerton. Unfortunately he broke the tail shaft in his car during the first round of qualifying so he was able to get back to Seattle sooner than he thought. Kurt and Lynn Bruch were also out with their beautiful 68 and 69 Camaros. With three rounds of time trials completed, the ladder was set and we were ready to race but then the rain started and the day was called.
Included on the ladder was Scott Nation. For those who have been reading the forum, yes those were all rumors started by bad Dale and Eric. Scott did not go automatic, Laurie did not leave him for another stick shift racer and Scott made a mid 9's pass in his 69 Dodge Dart. Congratulations Scott.
Sunday started out nice. The first and only time trial for the Super Shifters was run and ladder number two was set. The continuation of race number one began with Kurt Bruch getting the bye run in the first round. Dennis Powroznik red lit to Rory McNeil unfortunately Rory broke the ring gear off the starting line but still won the race. He felt like an honoray member of Hobo Racing after rolling around on the dirt under his car. A true Hobo member however would have mixed up a batch of JB Weld and put that ring gear back together.
Justin Gallant took out Fred Pleines and got a bye run in the second round. Scott Winterbottom took out Wayne Davis with his latest very cool ride, the Hobo Nova. . Scott ran mid 10's but it is expected that he will be running 9's very soon. Terry Hoogstins took out Keith Winterbottom who was running the Mazda RX7. We could only guess that there was an OUCH after every shift.
The rain started just before round two of race one, then the hail, the thunder and the lighting. All twelve racers will have a credit for one race in Bremerton. The Super Shifters are back in Bremeton on August 1-2 for the big buck race. There will be a guaranteed prize of $750.00 for the winner of Sunday's race.
Wayne and Lindsey Broughton stopped by with Ben, Samuel and Joey to say hi. Wayne is still working on this motor and hopes to run a few races before the end of the season.
If you thought Hobo Racing had seen enough for one weekend, they blew a tire on the way home. Kim Bailey had it changed in no time and the team was again on the road home.
The next race is July 11-12 in Mission which is also the annual BC Super Shifter Barbecue. If you liked last year's menu, we will be doing it again. We hope to see everyone in Mission.
